The South Carolina Historical Society invites you to engage in a profound examination of the interconnected histories of slavery, viewed through the lenses of both the descendants of the enslaved and those of enslavers and traders. Virginia Ellison, COO and Director of Collections, will facilitate a discussion featuring South Carolina authors Dr. Walter Curry and Margaret Seidler, focusing on the enduring legacies of these histories and their representation in memory and interpretation.
The authors will share insights from their family research conducted in various archival collections across South Carolina and the nation, highlighting how descendants of enslaved individuals preserve their ancestors’ narratives, while also addressing the complexities faced by descendants of enslavers regarding their family’s historical involvement.
