Traveling Exhibition-The Thompson Family’s Historical Journey Through Slavery and The Civil War
The historical exhibition on Slavery and the Civil War delves into the ancestral experiences of the Thompson Family’s enslaved relatives in rural South Carolina, particularly in Aiken and Lexington counties, during the Antebellum period (1830-1860) and their roles in the Civil War (1860-1865). It showcases the stories of an enslaved person who achieved freedom, another whose mother was sold at a young age, and a woman who served as a cook under her master’s command during the conflict. The exhibition features informative panels, which are further enhanced by narratives drawn from the book, “The Thompson Family: Untold Stories From The Past (1830-1960)”.

Traveling Exhibition-Tracing the Life and Times of Martha Kitchings Seawright Ellison
The historical exhibition centers on the life of Martha Kitchings Seawright Ellison, who was born into slavery on November 20, 1849, in Aiken County, South Carolina. It presents a contextualized narrative that explores her experiences during the antebellum period and the Civil War, as well as her life during the Reconstruction Era and thereafter. The exhibition features QR Codes integrated into informative panels, which are further enhanced by narratives drawn from the book, “The Awakening: The Seawright Ellison Family Saga Vol.1, A Narrative History”.

Ancestral Reflections: The Thompson Family Exhibition
“Ancestral Reflections: The Thompson Family” comprises a series of eight paintings accompanied by informative panels that depict the lives of enslaved ancestors, including a participant in the Civil War, as well as various agricultural practices in rural South Carolina. Inspired by the award-winning book, “The Thompson Family: Untold Stories From The Past (1830-1960),” the exhibition highlights the family’s rich heritage from Salley, South Carolina. It aims to connect family history with visual storytelling, spark community discussions about historical context, and demonstrate how art can bring family narratives to life. This collaborative project features Dr. Walter B. Curry, founder of Renaissance Publications & Educational Programs, LLC and author of the book, alongside exhibition artist Chakalah Crawford, founder of A.D.D. Art By Kalah. This exhibition encompasses a diverse range of captivating shows suitable for institutions of all sizes, tailored for local museums, galleries, libraries, schools, cultural centers, and art galleries.

Tracing Time: Uncovering Our Ancestors’ Stories

Curry, Jr., and Margaret Seidler, this exhibition focuses on exploring the intertwined histories of slavery, both from the perspective of descendants of the enslaved and the descendants of enslavers and traders in South Carolina.
